About Us
Established on 19th July 2005, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Guwahati Kendra is the only centre of the Bhavan in Assam. It owes its foundation to the generous donation of a two-storied building and land by Smt. Subrata Barua, in memory of her husband, Late Shri Kamaleswar Barua, former Chief Engineer of PWD, undivided Assam. With support from Bhavan’s headquarters in Mumbai, the Kendra has steadily grown into a hub of cultural, educational, and skill development activities.
The Kendra offers training in music, dance, spoken English, and computer education through its Gandhi Institute of Computer Education and IT, established in 2009. Despite setbacks during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Kendra has made a strong recovery.
A notable recent initiative is the Yoga Kendra for senior citizens, promoting physical and mental well-being. With CSR support, the newly launched “Senior Citizen Centre” furthers this mission, featuring a library of over 500 books and a fully equipped conference-cum-training room. These developments reflect the Kendra’s enduring commitment to community service, holistic growth, and the preservation of Indian values and traditions in the region.
