Medical Awareness Programme for Senior Citizens (Senior Citizen Centre)

On 8th February 2025, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Guwahati Kendra organized a Medical Awareness Programme for senior citizens, featuring renowned UK-based doctor Dr. Jayanta Biswa Sarma. The programme started with inaugural speech by Mr. S.K. Roy, Secretary of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Guwahati Kendra who gave a brief about the organisation and its future initiatives. The event, presided over by Vice Chairman of BVB Guwahati Kendra Mr. B.P. Tody, aimed to provide valuable health insights and personal medical guidance. Dignitaries like Mr. Prashanta Baruah and Mr. Shyamal Bhattacharjee also graced the occasion. Over 70 senior citizens attended and benefited from one-to-one interactions with Dr. Sarma, who addressed various health concerns and emphasized preventive care, regular check-ups, and healthy living. His speech on the current medical scenario and advancements in healthcare was highly appreciated. The event encouraged active participation, fostered a sense of community, and concluded with refreshments. The programme was a great success, reflecting the Kendra’s commitment to senior citizens’ well-being and the importance of medical awareness in building a healthier society.

Cyber Crime Awareness Programme for Senior Citizens (Senior Citizen Centre)

On 18th February 2025 at 11 AM, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Guwahati Kendra organized a Cyber Crime Awareness Programme for senior citizens at the Senior Citizen Forum, Bhetapara Durga Mandir. The event was presided over by Mr. Ganesh Goswami and event started with inaugural speech by Mr. S.K. Roy, Secretary of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Guwahati Kendra who gave a brief about the organisation and its future initiatives. Esteemed dignitaries including Mr. Himangshu Sekhar Das (Chairman, BVB Guwahati Kendra), Mrs. T. Y. Das (Retired Chief Secretary, Govt. of Assam), and Mr. Prashanta Baruah (Member, BVB Guwahati Kendra) were present in the event. Resource persons Mr. Mridul Chakraborty (DSP, Cyber Crime, Assam Police) and Mr. Chabin Das (Director, NIC) shared valuable insights on cyber threats and safety practices. Around 55 senior citizens participated actively in the interactive session, enhanced with projector presentations. The three-hour programme proved informative and successful in raising awareness on cyber security among the elderly. Lite refreshments were served to all attendees.

On 27th February 2025 at 11 AM, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (BVB) Guwahati Kendra organized a Cyber Crime Awareness Programme for senior citizens at the Senior Citizen Forum, Pandu. The event started with inaugural speech by Mr. S.K. Roy, Secretary of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Guwahati Kendra who gave a brief about the organisation and its future initiatives. Programme was presided over by Mr. Nipen Sutradhar (President, Senior Citizen Forum Pandu) and Sri Himangsu Sekhar Das, Chairman of BVB Guwahati Kendra was present in the dais. Mr. Pranab Jyoti Goswami (IPS) and Mr. Imran Ali (Deputy Manager, Cyber Crime, SBI) served as resource persons. Approximately 70 senior citizens participated actively in the three-hour session, which included informative discussions and presentations on cyber threats and safety measures. A projector was used to enhance understanding, making the session engaging and interactive. Light refreshments were served. The programme successfully raised awareness about cyber security and addressed the concerns of senior citizens regarding online safety.

On 8th March 2025 at 11 AM, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (BVB) Guwahati Kendra organized a Cyber Crime Awareness Program for senior citizens at its own hall. The event aimed to educate the elderly on cyber threats and digital financial safety. Esteemed dignitaries including Mr. Himangshu Sekhar Das, Mr. Atanu Choudhury graced the occasion and Mr. S.K. Roy, Secretary of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Guwahati Kendra who gave a brief about the organisation and its future initiatives. Resource persons Mr. Mridul Chakraborty (Deputy SP, CID, Cyber) and Mr. Imran Ali (Deputy Manager, SBI, Cyber Crime) delivered insightful presentations on online fraud, phishing, identity theft, and financial scams. The interactive session saw active participation from the attendees. A special gesture was made to honour International Women’s Day by wishing the ten senior women present. Light snacks and tea were served, and the event received media coverage. The program was well-received, highlighting the need for more such awareness initiatives to empower senior citizens in the digital age.

Assamese Holi Geet Workshop, 2025 (Kala Kendra)

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Guwahati Kendra organized a free Assamese Holi Geet Workshop from 24th to 28th February 2025 at BVB Kala Kendra Hall. Inaugurated by Sri Himangsu Sekhar Das, with dignitaries Mr. S.K. Roy and Mr. Prashanta Baruah present, the workshop was led by Mr. Ramen Das and his team. Mr. S.K. Roy, Secretary of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Guwahati Kendra who gave a brief about the organisation’s Kala Kendra initiatives. Around 20 participants of all age groups took part enthusiastically. The closing event received wide media coverage. The workshop was a great success, drawing daily audiences and concluding with certificate distribution, leaving participants with a memorable and enriching experience.

Bringing Wellness to the Community through Yoga (Yoga Kendra)

Since March 25, 2025, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Kendra has been offering free yoga sessions for senior citizens, held regular basis under expert guidance. Inaugurated by Mr. S.K. Roy, Secretary of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Guwahati Kendra who gave a brief note about the Yoga Kendra initiatives. The program has enhanced participants’ flexibility, energy, and well-being while fostering a strong sense of community. Conducted in a well-equipped, serene space, the sessions have received overwhelmingly positive feedback. Encouraged by the response, we have plan to launch paid classes for all age groups, extending yoga’s benefits to a wider audience. Committed to holistic health, the Kendra’s yoga program continues to thrive as a hub of wellness and harmony.
